Last night I spent a while going through my old collection of guardians. Altogether I've got 104 old style ones (plus more than enough platform crew and warlocks), many of which are the metal body plastic arm variety. Having looked at the available weapons and the codex limitations I've decided I can make and paint the following units (although not immediately):
3 Iyanden and 1 Ulthwe Defender Squad (the difference is just in the painting):
Each with 9 Guardians with catapults + warlock + platform with 2 crew (12 models per unit)
1 Iyanden and 1 Ulthwe Assault Squad
9 Guardians with close combat wpns + 2 Guardians with special wpns + warlock (12 models per unit)
1 Ranger squad (converted from lasgun guardians)
10 Rangers with (sniper) las rifles
Total Guardians used 68
The remaining models will be "archived" but with the plan that eventually I will cobble together a biel tan (white and green) defender squad and another unit of 10 Rangers. the remaining handful will be mostly the old "lasgun plastic guardians" which will be scavenged for bitz. I've also got 15 to 20 new style guardians (not included in any of the above) but they will stay on their sprues until everything else is done (despite being arguably nicer than the old style)

Fire dragons finished
